Failure to provide a radiant heat barrier can also cause poor performance of your roofing system. Your attic is like a heat “sponge”, soaking up the sun’s heat and transferring it to your insulation in the attic. This insulation stores the heat and warms everything, including your air conditioning unit, ductwork, and ceilings.

- High utility bills.
- Wide temperature mood swings.
- Stress on your air conditioning system.
A radiant heat barrier is placed in your attic to deflect the transfer of heat. This "solar heat shield" blocks 95 percent of the heat radiated down by the roof so it can't reach the insulation.

- Your home will be cooler and more comfortable, even in milder weather.
- Uninsulated, unconditioned areas like garages, porches and workrooms may be more comfortable.
- Your attic is more usable for storage.
Radiant barrier-related reductions in the cooling portion of summer utility bills may be as large as 17 percent.
